Spotlight on Food Routes

Poor food choices—and the proliferation of unhealthy options—have become a major challenge for many Americans. The cost is clear: increasing obesity rates, decreasing farmer incomes, and a less diverse food industry that churns out our food as quickly and cheaply as possible.

That’s where FoodRoutes Network (FRN) comes in. With a mission to “reintroduce Americans to their food,” this national non-profit is dedicated to empowering people to make healthier choices and support local and sustainable food systems.

FoodRoutes provides valuable tools to both businesses and consumers—communication and marketing materials, chapter development for their nationwide “Buy Fresh Buy Local” program, and a website packed with information and resources for supporting local and sustainable food.

College students interested in campaigning for local sustainable food in their school dining systems can find research, downloadable fact sheets, and lists of further resources to get started. And anyone has the power to influence real change by contacting FoodRoutes and downloading ready-to-use campaign materials to start a local Buy Fresh Buy Local chapter, which works to connect shoppers, restaurants, and retailers to local food suppliers.

Get involved at FoodRoutes.org—and read more about why you should.
